Shreya Mehta Felicitated by New York City Council at Art Show in Indian Consulate

International award winning artist Shreya Mehta was felicitated by the New York City Council at a special art show for charity event organised at the Indian Consulate in mid-November. The gala evening was attended by art patrons, directors of the Met museum and Queen Museum of Art, many NYC Galleries, Hollywood personalities and NY celebrities.

During the evening, Shreya auctioned some of her artworks and helped raiseUS$ 55,000 for education of girls in India. The event was supported by support of charity organisationsCommit2Change andThe Satya Foundation. She also gifted her painting “Durga” to the Indian Consulate which was accepted by Ambassador DynaneshwarMulay, Consul General of India.

The citation of the award from the NYC Council noted that “As duly elected members of the New York City Council,  we recognise that in SHREYA MEHTA we have an outstanding citizen, one whom is worthy of the esteem of both community and the great City of New York.”

The Council award recognises “persons whogive exemplary service to their communities, whether through participation in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in their professional or other endeavors or simply through a lifetime of good citizenry”.

Shreya completed formal training in art in Belgium and has specialized in charcoal, paint, & glass mediums. She has been based in New York for the last fifteen years and has donated the proceeds of her exhibitions to various charitable causes. “This is my endeavor to improve the world around us through art and philanthropy.  In 2012, I launched ART for a Cause.  All the net proceeds from the sale of my works go to charities.  This allows the art lover to become a philanthropist also,” she explains.

Shreya is married to Amish Mahendra Chandulal Mehta and resides in New York. She is the daughter of Subodh Tarachand Shah (s/o Tarachand Shah) and Smita Bhansali Shah (d/o of Rasik Bhansali).
