Rishab Shah wins Singapore Open Chess Championship for Boys U 12

Eleven year old Rishab Shah became the first Indian player to win the U-12 title at the Singapore Open Chess Championship held in December 2014, defeating the top three seeds on his way to the gold medal.  Rishab was the 4th seed.

Players from Singapore, Australia, China, England, Hong Kong and the United States participated in the Singapore Open.

A student of Cathedral & John Connon School, Mumbai, Rishab is the son of Archana and Viral Ashokbhai Shah.  He has an ELO rating of 1670 as per the FIDE.

"Rishab is talented and hardworking. This win is a big boost and he will soon be touching the international rating of 2000+ points," Balaji Guttula, Chief Coach at South Mumbai Chess Academy told the media.

Earlier last year, Rishab also won the 1st place in the Boys U-12 Interschool MSSA Chess Tournament 2014.

Some of his other achievements are:
• In 2013 he stood 3rd in the State Chess Championship for Boys U-11 at Nagpur.
• Delhi Chess Challenge 2014 U-11 Boys - 2nd place
• Kottayam FIDE rated Chess Tournament 2014 U-11 Boys -- 2nd place
• National Schools 2014 U-11 Boys – 6th place
• Maharashtra State Chess Championships 2014 U-11 Boys -- 10th place
• Disrtict level Inter School Tournament 2013 U 14 Boys -- 1st place
• All India FIDE rating Chess Tournament in Hyderabad 2013 stood 24th out of 422 players and won 1st place in Boys U-10
• Island Monsoon and Winter Leagues 2013 U-10 Boys stood 1st in both the tournaments
