Khushboo at her installation
The Artfully Twisted Paper Sculptures
Interior designer and architect Khushboo Shah displayed a unique set of Twisted Paper Sculptures at the Visual Art section of the Kala Ghoda Art Festival (Rampart Row) held in Mumbai between February 7-15, 2015. Khushboo is the daughter of Reshma and Ashish Vasantbhai Jormalbhai Shah. Khushboo’s installation consisted of a number of Artfully Twisted Paper Sculptures created by folding pages of books to project the message Save Tigers. On hearing that the theme of the Visual Art section at this premier event in the city was to be Tactile, she decided to apply. After an interview and presentation, her proposal to create Artfully Twisted Paper Sculptures was selected for the main event. “I chose this form of art to emphasise in an innovative way the visual and tactile quality of books that’s lost in this era of e-books,” she says. “My installation showed tigers in different forms such as: walking around, roaring, leaping and its paws and eyes, with all the visual effects created only by folding pages.” Currently working with an architect, Khushboo completed a course from Rachana Sansad and also graduated with Commerce in 2013. She is also pursuing her MCom and MBA. Recalling how she developed this unique art form, Khushboo says, “I was inspired by the way we bookmark pages in our books, and happened to visualise a pattern being formed in the process. So I began trying to form simple shapes by folding pages.” By surfing the internet she got additional information on “Folded Book Sculptures” and further improved her skills. “I really enjoy doing this and am looking forward to starting something by taking orders for such sculptures created by folding and artistically twisting books,” she concludes.
