Shonan Kothari Shah Organises Cakesgiving Day

After having successfully organised Mumbai’s first ever Flash Mob a few years ago, Shonan Kothari Shah embarked on a new project in 2014  - organising Cakesgiving Day, a day when one can spread a smile and surprise strangers by offering them a slice of free cake. The day is held on March 27. Shonan is married to Adesh S Shah and is the daughter of Vibha and Mehul Kothari.

On that day, Shonan and a group of volunteers recruited through crowdsourcing via the Internet, distributed the cakes to anyone who looked like they needed a smile — policemen, construction workers, shoppers, passersby, etc.

The cakes are donated by some of the city’s leading restuarants and bakeries such as Le15 Patisserie, Deliciae, The Table, Le Pain Quotidien, The Sassy Spoon, Sweetish House Mafia, Mamagoto and others.  Over 1,000 pieces of cake were distributed to strangers across the city.

This year, Cakesgiving went international. Volunteers from Hong Kong, New York and Vancouver contacted Shonan and did their own version of Cakesgiving there.
