Parag N. Shah of Gem International was re-elected as the Treasurer of the Diamond Manufacturers & Importers Association of America (DMIA) during elections to the organisation’s Board at its second annual General Meeting of the year on August 5th. He has held the post since last year. Parag is the son of Aruna and Navin Amulakh Shah.

After completing his B.S. and M.B.A. in Finance at NYU, Parag worked on Wall St. for two years (1988-1990) before deciding to continue the family legacy (his grandfather, Amulakh Shah, was a private jeweller in Calcutta).

He joined the family business Gem International, a company started by his father and uncle in 1977. It was one of the first 10 Indian owned companies in the diamond business in the United States and today is one of the few Indian owned companies that specializes in ideal cuts and better quality diamonds in the 0.005 - 0.30 size. Gem International has an inventory of GIA certified diamonds and has recently added Lab Grown Diamonds to the portfolio.
