Anshul Kothari did the country proud once again by winning three medals (one gold and two silvers) at the recently concluded 12th South Asian Games held at Guwahati last week. Countries from across South Asia competed in different disciplines during the Games. Anshul is the son of Sushamaben and Ketanbhai Rasiklal Kothari. The gold medal came in the Men’s 4x100 medley relay where Anshul was part of the Indian team than also comprised Sandeep Sejwal, Supriyo Mondal and PS Madhu. The quartet came first, beating the teams from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. They established a new Games record for the event with a timing of 3m 49.78s.
In the Men’s 4x100 freestyle relay, the Indian team with Anshul, Neil Contractor, SP Nair and Sahil Chopra bagged the silver medal, behind the Sri Lanka team. Anshul also won a silver medal in the Men’s 50m Butterfly individual event.
Now a computer engineer in Surat, Anshul has been representing the country and winning medals at national events ever since he was in college.
He won his first international medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay event at the Asian age group swimming championship held in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2011 and has represented the country in the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games as well.
