Dignitaries on the dais

The inauguration of Samarpan Hospital marks a new phase in the history of the Shri Taley Mohammed Khan Silver Jubilee & Shah Manchand Maganchand Eye Hospital Trust. Set up nearly 68 years ago, when the Nawab decided to use the money gifted to him by the local people on the occasion of his Silver Jubilee to set up a facility for the treatment of eye diseases which were rampant as a result of the city adjoining the desert areas of Rajasthan. The Nawabsaheb himself contributed an additional extra amount equalling the gifts he had received. A Jain merchant, Chamanlal Manchandbhai also donated a substantial amount in the name of his father. A plot of 40,000 sq ft was bought for the purpose and a 15,000 sq ft Eye Hospital building was opened on May 14, 1948. Thanks to the sterling effort of Dr Haribhai Parekh, the first eye surgeon, took this philanthropic project to great heights.

Samarpan Hospital

A few years ago the Trust appealed for donations towards the construction of a new hospital building and the addition of a General Medicine department to the existing Opthalmology facilities. In response, Shantibhai M. Mehta, Navinbhai D. Mehta and Dilipbhai D. Mehta came forward with a proposal and in two years the impressive new building was constructed.

The Samarpan Hospital has 40 fully equipped beds, a 6 bed ICU, state of the art operation theatres, a digital X-Ray facility which will aid in the treatment of Cataract, Glaucoma, Cornea & Uvea, Retina & Vitreous care.

The Eye Hospital conducts regular free eye check up camps with the help of donors. Two such camps have been conducted annually for a number of years with the help of Kantilal Chimanlal Mehta (Bhai) family (17 years) and the Taraben Mulchandbhai Charitable Trust (five years).

The new hospital will continue these traditions and is committed to offer the best general medical treatment and total eye care treatment to common people, with deserving cases being treated free of cost.

The Opthalmology department is fully operational, while the General Medicine department is expected to be operational very soon.
