Sriya B. Mehta, aged just over 14 years, won a Bronze medal in the Girls Doubles U-17 age group at the Gujarat State Badminton Championship held at Adani Shantigram from May 30 to June 5, 2016. Sriya is the daughter of Mital and Bhavin Naresh Mehta.

The tournament was organised by Ahmedabad District Badminton Association under the aegis of Gujarat State Badminton Association. Sriya partnered with Devni Haria to secure third place.

Earlier in May, Sriya participated in ther first international badminton tournament, the North Carolina Open, USA along with others from China, India and the US. Here she won three silver medals – Junior U-17 Singles & Doubles, as well as in Women’s Doubles. In the Junior category she partnered with Neha Pendayala, and Indian-origin American, while in the Women’s category her partner was Xian Zang of China.

In February this year, Sriya also won a Silver medal in the Girls U-15 Doubles (with Ishita Shah as partner) at the JITO National Games 2016 and contributed to the JITO Ahmedabad chapter winning the national trophy with the highest win points.
