Arnav Mehta was one of the star performers in the Cathedral and John Connon U-14 boys team that emerged as Maharashtra state champions at the Subroto Cup Football Tournament held at All Saints High School Grounds, Bhiwandi in August. Arnav is the son of Rachana and Amar Suryakant Mehta and is currently studying in the 8th standard of Cathedral and John Connon School.
The Cathedral and John Connon U-14 boys team, representing Mumbai district, defeated Kolhapur in the final. Mumbai District has won the State tournament after a gap of many years.
Arnav played as goalkeeper for the team and, with the help of his team mates in the defence, did not concede a single goal in the entire tournament.
Subroto Cup instituted in the memory of Air Marshall Subroto Mukerjee in 1960 is India's Premier Inter School Football Tournament and has been held annually since 1960.
The team will now represent the state in the National level finals to be held in Delhi in September. Teams from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Nepal and Sri Lanka will also be participating.
